Positioning:
Grasp the needle that carries the yarn with your left hand. Take the other needle in your right hand.
|
Step 1.
Place the point of your right needle just to the left of the first loop on the left needle and insert the right hand needle into the first loop just under the left needle.
|
Step 2.
Hold both needles in this position with your left hand. Pick up the yarn with your right hand and wrap it under and around the right hand needle point and between the two needles. Do not let go of the yarn but continue to hold it as your bring your right hand back down to also hold the right needle again.
|
Step 3.
Bring the yarn that you just wrapped around the right hand needle through the first loop on the left needle by going back through that first loop just under the left needle.
|
Step 4.
Carefully slip the first loop on the left needle that you have been working with off of that left needle. You should now have a loop or "stitch" on the right needle and one less loop or "stitch" on the left needle.
|
Repeat
To continue to knit this row, start again with Step 1 through Step 4. Each time, one more loop will be added to the right needle and one less will be on the left needle.
When you have knit all of the loops or "stitches" off of the left needle and onto the right needle, it is time to turn your right needle over and put it into your left hand. It now becomes the left hand needle and you are ready to knit the next row.
