The body of the butterfly is created by bending aluminum wire around and up, again and again into a triangle shape that is flexible like a spring. The result will be a triangular shaped spring that is about 1 inch in diameter through the middle, 3/4 inch in diameter near each end and about 2 and 1/2 to 3 inches long. |

|
Step 1.
Cut a piece of aluminum wire measuring 20 inches long. Then, using your needle nose pliers bend a 1/4 inch circle at one end of the wire. |
Step 2.
Next, place your pliers about 1/2 inch from the circle and hold. Bend the wire at the pliers until about a 35 degree angle and tilted very slightly upward. |
Step 3.
Move your pliers about 3/4 inch from the last bend in the wire and hold. Bend the wire again at the pliers at about a 35 degree angle and tilted very slightly upward. |

Step 4.
Again, move your pliers about 3/4 inch from the last bend and hold. Bend the wire at the pliers until about a 35 degree angle and tilted very slightly upward. You should have created the start of a triangle shape spring. |
Next...
Make another "triangle" above the first one. Move your pliers 3/4 inch from every bend until you have completed all three sides of another triangle in the spring. |
Continue...
For the next 3 or 4 triangles, move your pliers 1 inch from every bend, each time at about a 35 degree angle and slightly tilted upward. |
Finishing...
For the last 2 triangles in the spring, go back to a 3/4 inch distance between each bend. |
End
Lastly, create a 1/4 inch circle above the final triangle in the spring and cut any extra wire off. (Both ends of the spring will have 1/4 inch circle of wire that will be used to thread the wings through.) |
