If you have not done so already, cut a piece of plastic canvas for the project as follows: 69 squares x 55 squares to complete the design and the stitched matting for an 8 x 10 finished product.
The matting is made on the outside 10 squares all around the canvas.  Each stitch is done over two intersections rather than one. There are 5 rows. Each of the rows is stitched in the opposite direction from the previous row.
The corners consist of a series of 5 stitches all coming from the same corner square as shown in the following examples.
