Sign materials Materials Needed:

Decorate

Directions:

  1. Cut wood for your signs. (Any size that you want)
  2. Glue a strip of wood to the back of each sign as shown.
  3. Let dry completely.
  4. Decorate your signs using fabric cut-outs (glued on with glue stick) or hand paint using stencils

To weather-proof for outside garden use:

  1. Cut 2 pieces of contact paper that measure 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches larger than the sign around all the edges.
  2. Lay out one piece of contact paper, sticky side up, on a flat surface.
  3. Lay the sign down onto the contact paper, with the sign centered. (Picture side down onto the sticky part)
  4. Push out any air pockets.
  5. Lay the other piece of contact paper (sticky side down) onto the back of the sign.
  6. Push out air pockets and seal the contact pieces together around the edges of the sign. (Tip: This works best if you seal left and right first and then top and bottom. Also, you may need to put a pleat in the back piece of contact paper, above the post, as you stick the top and bottom sides together.)
  7. Finally, trim the edges of the contact paper to about 3/4 inch from the edge of the sign on all sides.

Optional extra:

For extra strength on the contact paper seal, make holes spaced about 1/2 inch apart on the contact paper overlap.  A medium nail works great.  (Make sure that you position the holes to be closer to the outside edge than the sign edge. You don't want your holes to let water into the sign.)  Then "weave" or "stitch" up and down through the holes with plastic lacing.   Leave about 6 inches of lacing at each end and then tie in a bow.
